At Jeppe: Fostering an approach toward placemaking in the South African metropolis through the metamorphosis of a place of gathering.

The thesis dealt with the exploration of the design process for unpacking and investigating the metamorphosis of a place of gathering in Jeppestown, Johannesburg. The intention of the research was to identify ways of working with architecture as an urban  medium for creating places of meaning and value for a landscape of diverse people. This was achieved through an iterative design process and investigated primarily through hand drawings.

The site and the associated investigative process is documented as a case study toward a methodology and manfiesto for placemaking in the post-apartheid metropolis.

The thesis falls within a simultaneous investigation of the context through an urban framework document titled: Jeppestown - A Prospect Ritual (Dawjee, Smuts, Steynberg, V.D. Merwe & Wilken 2014).
